Bitter sweet

Nebraska lost, Florida State won. That's the bitter part. Iowa won, USC lost. That's the sweet part. Besides the football, it was a busy weekend. In an effort to prepare a garden for next year, I have been slowly cutting down a couple of trees. There are actually three trees in my back yard that need to come down so that I can get enough sunlight to grow anything but moss. Two of the trees are on the fence line, one of which hangs over my neighbor's roof. Both of those trees are between 20-30 feet so they aren't too much of a challenge other than the fact that I don't want to drop anything on my neighbor's property. The real problem is that I don't own a chain saw. So, I became good friends with some rope and my bow saw. I started the project two weeks ago and cut down as much of the tree hanging over my neighbor's house as I dared - there is only so high a guy my size (and age) should be climbing. This last Saturday, after sawing away on the other tree at my fence line, Michelle came out saw what I was doing, shook her head, and went back inside. A minute or two later she came back out and told me she had made a couple of calls and had found a chainsaw I could borrow. By 7 pm, I had gotten the entire tree down without dropping a single crabapple into my neighbor's yard. Now I only have one and a half trees to go. I just need larger diameter rope, a taller ladder, and a much bigger saw.

Sounds like you've got yourself a smart wife Jason. Funny thing though is that Brent would've done just what you did, and I'd have tracked down the saw. Hmmm.

Glad you got it down without killing yourself or the neighbor's house!

I think there ought to be a rule that says bowsaws should only be used on boy scout campouts. They shouldn't be used anywhere else. Chainsaw is the way to go! -Jess
